RE: Initial dialog with Prospective Homer ALEX ORIGINATED: February 2008
Interaction with ALEX who is a HOMER who may remotely assist a Ministry
ALEX:
Hi Brad, I am one of those HOMERs that is described when I read 0905 and I may be interested in this opportunity to remotely serve via the Internet.BRAD:
Thank you for connecting up, ALEX. In a separate Email, please provide me at Brad@rpfin.org with some of your background or your biography info, etc. Are you a "Mom at Home" or a "Retired Keenager", etc? . Please include some info as the how you fit into the following list of possible types of HOMERS:-- One who is well acquainted with QuickBooks Pro (QBs) and maybe even Fund Accounting via QBs
-- A CPA who has decided to be a "stay at home mom" at this point in her life
-- A Mom who has been employed at a Ministry - like Pen
-- A former or retired bookkeeper or accountant who wants to be productive.
-- A former BeeTee at a church
-- One who does their own personal bookkeeping using Quicken or perhaps via QBs , etcYou will find mine when you CLICK HERE and learn that I am deaf and our communications needs to be in writing. I look forward to get better acquainted.
ALEX:
Thank you. Please tell me some more about the various aspects of being such a HOMER, etc. I would imagine that some "Moms at Home" HOMERS would need to earn some money in this process, but I look forward to being a volunteer.BRAD:
Yes, indeed some will want to earn some needed income. If so, they should discuss with me the "draft" process. As set forth when you Click Here and digest its content, you will could be prepared to serve either Small Christian Ministries or the Christian Family. Do you have a preference?
You will notice, of course, that our emphasis here is to serve Ministries and their more complicated financial management needs. There are some principles that are alike, but the Ministry issues are more involved. Be sure and review our supposed dialog found at 2000 as you pursue this, etc.ALEX:
Yes, my preference is serving a Christian Ministry. I have already learned that some of a their money is "Spoken For" and I suppose that is what we especially address in this effort.BRAD:
How true. A HOMER serving a Ministry must first be tuned in to some of the peculiarities of handling their money -- especially the handling of what is sometimes called "Imposed" Ministry Money --- or the incoming money's use has been restricted by a Donor or designated by its Board. When you digest the content of 0041 , and its related links, you find that we call such money "Special Purpose Funds - SPFunds." This term is plural because there is almost always more than one SPFund. Then there is incoming money that is NOT imposed by any source and we refer to this as the single "General Purpose Fund - GPFund". Overall the management of all of the Ministry's money is called "Ministry Fund Accounting."ALEX:
So then I need to understand these accounting issues and then apply them to the applicable Ministry as I use QBs Pro to accomplish all of this, right? Please share below some more details of my requirements to be a qualified HOMER.BRAD:
You, of course, will need to have a fast connected Internet computer system and you will need at least such software as the following: >> Email; >> Excel Docs; >> Older version of QBs Pro (NOT the NPO QBPro version) that costs something like $100.00 out on eBay. After we get acquainted and you ultimately agree to serve in this way we will exchange written prayers for each other
Fundamentally you would learn via "text", or study resources, as provided via the Internet; and you might be asked to complete tests that allow you to go to the Internet before you give your answers; you will be given Tutorials to complete Online; and finally I will imitate a Small Ministry and you will "get them going" as if it was real, etc. Of course, I will be available for counsel when you begin to help Ministries on your own, etc. Resources include data found within 0601. and Click Here for a dialog as you thoroughly understand the eFinFax system so you can properly assist a Ministry in their use thereof. Your studies will include such topics as: Seven Financial basics at a Ministry -- Fund Accounting -- the QBuxBox system,-- Glossary -- CHART (report) samples -- Full use of the After the Fact (ATF) system as you use terms like: Photo, Video, A to B, Big Pix. You take Online exams to insure that you have the needed "Ministry Fund Accounting" foundations. Sometimes this involves you going to my desktop as you respond to questions Online. Of course, we are always looking for improvements from qualified people like you.
I will work closely with you as you serve a Ministry during the first month or so of your relationship with them, etc. Click Here for some set up details.ALEX:
I will digest all of this and get back to you, Brad.
