RE: Initial Pastor's Salary/Benefits Issues ORIGINATED: February 2008
What follows are some thoughts about handling the following essentials of the initial Pastor/Staffer>> Board approved Salary and annual Clergy Housing Allowance
>> Medical coverage for Pastor/Staffer and family etc
>> Self Employed Social Security matters
>> Any Retirement beyond Social SecurityThe ideal for all of the above is to have all of this initially flow via the applicable "Sponsoring Entity." Often such a "Sponsoring Entity" is some Church denomination group or a Sister Church. If so, this "Sponsoring Entity" pays for these Salaries and Benefits via their payroll set up and the "New Church" reimburses each week, etc. Such Salaries and Benefits disbursements ideally appear as "Expected Receipts" at the "Sponsoring Entity." --- plus they might be poised to periodically write off any "Expected Receipt" balance to something like a budgeted "Mission Expense" for any portion that the "New Church" is just not able to pay. etc.
Of course, ASAP the "New Church" assumes all of these responsibilities themselves .... ideally beginning the 1st of a Calendar year.
The "New Church" has a "BuxBox" for this "Expense Spending Control" area and weekly reimburses the "Sponsoring Entity" to the extent of the balance therein. Click Here for details of the "BuxBox" system.
